Of course! In a totally expected move there will be new Zune software landing on the same day as the new Zune HD. ”Exciting new features” have been promised to go along with that “exciting new Zune”. I can’t wait, the anticipation is killing me!

iPhone to Finally MMS September 25

Holy cow! This took long enough! Totally missing the late summer date, iPhone users can finally expect to receive MMS on Sept. 25th. Still no word on tethering though.

PS3 Price Drop

They day we’ve all been waiting for is here. Sony finally announced a price drop for the PS3. The current 80gb PS3 is now $300 and will be phased out. This move finally puts the PS3 in financial competition with the Xbox 360. Let me be clear. I always thought the Ps3 was in financial competition with the Xbox 360. It was $100, so what! It was the same price as the Xbox 360 with the Wi-Fi dongle added on. Now, look and see what Sony has done. The PS3 is now $100 cheaper with Wi-Fi built in and it’s a Blu-Ray Player. It’s also got some pretty amazing exclusives. Heavy Rain, God of War 3, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Kill Zone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, etc. If you’re planning on getting a PS3, grab the last game mentioned first. They have also released the PS3 Slim, which kills the ability to install Linux and will come with a 120gb. The 160gb is $400. Although I don’t know why you would pay $100 more for the 160gb version. The hard drive in the slim is still swappable and you can get a 500gb 2.5 inch serial ata hard drive for $90. Is it too early to start planning the funeral for the Xbox? Because with one hell of a game list, built in Wi-Fi and a Blu Ray Player and free multiplayer gaming, this thing is looking like it’s going to bury the Xbox. It’s a far superior machine on paper and now financially. In the race for consoled Sony was dead last. With this much needed price drop, Sony has officially stepped it’s game up and given itself a competitive edge. Also the failure rate for the PS3 is considerably lower. Here’s looking at you Microsoft. The ball is in your court now.

Zune HD Officially Gets Official

It’s finally official! After the rumors the leaks, the drool worthy hands on photo ops, Microsoft has finally gotten official with the details of the very much anticipated Zune HD. The “new hotness” officially drops on September 15th with 16gb and 32gb models each costing $220 and $290. You can get your pre-order on today for the black and platinum versions. The 16gb will be in black and the 32gb will be in platinum. There will be additional colors available on September 15th, like blue, green, red, with Zune Originals artwork. Also, certain lucky Best Buy Stores will have the Zune HD on display so people can get a chance to play with it. I personally can’t wait until this thing drops. Undercutting Apple by $100 on the 32gb is a great move. One that I’m sure Apple will likely have an answer to come September or October. But still, I want this thing so badly, I’m about to pre-order mine right now!

Facebook has just bought FriendFeed the social news aggregator, aka the other Twitter. I think Facebook is going to fight Twitter til the death and possibly win!

USA to Let Customers Deposit Checks With iPhone

The privately held bank, USAA, will soon begin the practice of letting their customers deposit checks via an app that has yet to be updated. All you have to do is take a picture of the front and back of the check and send the pics via the app to the bank, and the check will be credited to your account. The actual check can then be destroyed. Fraud is obviously an issue, but a bank official claims to have proper security measures in place. The service will be extended only to customers who are insured by the bank and meet the proper credit guidelines. I’ve always said that the iPhone was a powerful mini personal computer and it’s things like this that prove me right. :-)

Zune HD in 16 and 32

The Zune HD just hit the FCC in all of its glory. There are two model numbers listed for the 16 and 32gb, 1395 and 1402. There’s an interesting mark on the inside case that reads “For Our Princess.” Now if only we could get a price.

iTunes 9 Details

According to Boy Genius Report, iTunes 9 will receive some amazing new features. Blu-Ray support will be added, which would be a major turn considering Steve Jobs famously called Blu-Ray “a bag of hurt”, the ability to visually organize your iPhone and iPod Touch apps and also some sort of Twitter, Last.fm, Facebook integration. I know some people will be very happy about the Blu-Ray support, especially me. There was no exact date given as to when iTunes 9 will drop but I believe it’s safe to assume sometime around September when the new iPods make their debut.

Google Transit Comes to Boston

Finally! I’ve been waiting for this since New York got theirs. (Forgive me, I may be a little biased being from Boston and all. Hey, that Boston New York rivalry is strong!) Google Transit directions have come to the MBTA, also known by the locals as “The T”. So, just like New York, the good people of Boston will now be able to plan their route accordingly using Google Maps. Just click on Get Directions, type in your starting and end points and click on By Public Transit. It will tell you what bus or train to catch and when that bus or train is leaving. I’m pretty excited for a person that drives everywhere! Hit the link for the Press Release.

Microsoft and Yahoo! Together At Last

Finally! It’s about time! With all the back and forth nonsense between Microsoft and Yahoo! these two have finally inked a search deal together. Microsoft gets a ten year licensing deal to use Yahoo’s core search technologies and Yahoo will also be incorporated into Bing. Yahoo in turn will be the “exclusive worldwide relationship sales force for both companies’ premium search advertisers”. Microsoft at one point offered to buy Yahoo! for $40 billion The partnership is of course subjected to the usual legal hurdles. But finally, we can put this mess behind us.
